Lion’s Mane Recording
High definition location recording for acoustic musicians
A Typical Location Session
Step One: A pre-production meeting is highly recommended to make sure we are in agreement regarding the sound you’d like to achieve. Microphone selection and placement are crucial, so we work closely with you to get the results you want.
[A common misconception is the importance of the brand of digital recording system.
In reality, the choice of microphone, placement, analog-to-digital conversion, and environment are the most critical parts of achieving a high quality recording. In other words, it’s what’s up front that counts.]
Step Two: Early set up at the location. The last thing you want is two hours of stress just before you need to make wonderful music. So we plan to set up and test everything early, preferably scheduling a period of downtime before the recording. Then you can relax and be ready to make a great recording.
Step Three: You play pretty, we record.
Step Four: Mixing and editing. This is done after the location recording. We add any desired effects such as reverb, compression, etc., then mix.
Step Five: Mastering. This is when your mixed tracks are prepared for transfer to compact disc. Level matching, overall equalization, track numbering and master fades are done during this step.
Steps Six, Seven & Eight: CD artwork design, production and duplication. We can do photography, artwork, liner notes – everything you need to make your CD look like the professional product you want.
Step Nine: Your fans make you rich and famous.
